What's The Real Story Carter?

As everyone probably knows by now, Carter Turner has thrown his name into the ring to replace Ginny Weisz as the Democratic nominee to challenge Morgan Griffith. According to sources, local Democrats approached several candidates about running (all of whom declined) prior to initially settling on Ms. Weisz in early June. One of those candidates was apparently Carter Turner.

This raises the obvious question - why didn't Carter jump in the race back in June and what is different now?

Thankfully, the media asked Carter that very question yesterday and I was a little taken aback by his response. Here's what the Roanoke Times had to say.
When asked about why he did not declare for the seat from the start, Turner said he was still absorbed with the asphalt issue.

Here's the problem. The plans for the asphalt plant were withdrawn on April 16, 2009. That was almost 2 full months before the filing deadline. That may lead one to ask whether there was still something going on notwithstanding the withdrawal of the plans. It certainly doesn't appear so. The group's own website says it has not been updated since April 1, 2009 at 5:22 pm.

Let me be clear, I don't think anything nefarious is going on. It just seems a little strange. The plans had been withdrawn for almost 2 months, the group's own website shows no activity for over 2 months and there is no evidence of anything past the middle of April. Just makes you wonder; what's the real reason?

Excellent observation on Carter's reason for jumping in the race now--

There seems to be a lot of strange, unexplained actions taking place with the local democratic party--

just the fact that that the (3) women, Waybright, Goodman, and Weisz, filed in the within one hour of the deadline, is another situation that brings confusion and disarray to the the Roanoke dems.
It was out in the open from several very reliable democratic sources, that there definitely would NOT be a democrat, running in the County Supervisors race against Ed Elswick---what happened here?
Supposedly Mr. Elswick was told by a high ranking democrat, he would absolutely have NO opposition this Fall. (it was pretty much guaranteed)

There also was rumored that the filing paperwork was not correct--but impossible to disclose with out full cooperation from the democratic committee---which will never happen.

Just makes one wonder what really is going on here---lots of lose ends, and unanswered questions.

Steve McGraw is trying to be a power broker and really mucking things up for the Dems. He is a low level player trying to play in the big leagues.

Steve McGraw is the key player, who would have ever thought that....

The Republicans don't offer a whole lot better situation (except the Roanoke City GOP committee)---The County committee give a dismal amount of financial backing to their GOP guys running for the County Board of Supervisors---that could also spell trouble down the road, if any of these 3 men would happen to lose in their home territory this Fall.

So who do you think Mccraw is aligning himself with?

I believe Brian lange may be behind the democratic split, ask him, if he has ever heard of a "shadow candidate"?

Wellllll... heard a rumor at the Tea Party that Elswick had actually approached the dems about running against McNamara. And, oh would that have actually happened. Because McNamara would've beat the snot out of him in a general election with higher turnout. But reliable sources have been known to be wrong. Anyway, the 8th District is strong Party turf. And Morgan is the Marjority Leader. The dems can't really think they're going to win.

u don't say. i hadnt heard that. u rite about morgan. he is loyal and knows the brand. not like those turncoats who helped warner pass that budget. morgan stopped that stimulus package to extend unemployment benefits. that was libtard socialism he stopped. if a man cant find a job in 6 mos he is lazy and spoiled by unionism and *wants* to be paid for doing nothing. there are plenty of jobs out there and would be lots more if it werent for the illegals. morgan needs to focus on them.

Oh that rumor you heard about Elswick, has some truth to it.
I think Elswick is more of an independent, and doesn't really "belong" to either party. His platform ( website) indicates he basically wants to be the watch dog on Roanoke county's spending habits, not all bad??

He may do the County some good, that's a positive thought for a rainy day...

Morgan does have it in the bag...no contest
