Arlen Specter switches to the Dems

I will pose the question to the readers:

Is the GOP better off without Specter?

No it is a great loss. Many moderate republicans feel wasted by republican leaders who seem to have no regard for the common values ~ just their "conservative" values and that does not equate to electability in this new era. Local republicans will find this out soon. Sorry to say it but I think we are blowing it totally. I would rather be honest than blindly loyal like lemmings going to sea to drown!

Specter wasnt a moderate Republican he was a liberal Republican. It was time for him to take his liberal views to the other side. This isnt a great loss, he voted for the Stimulus package.

I dont see how you can say "conservative values" dont equate to electability in this new era...the republicans have not run a conservative candidate in this "new era."

What the hell is the new era anyways?

It is not a big loss. Typical flip-flop. He started a democrat, then changed to republican, and not back to a democrat. I would like to see the process changed. If you change affiliation during your term, there should be a special election. We just need to take care of our own house. Elect VA Republicans in 2009 and national Republicans in 2010.

Absolutely better off...he has been divisive for some time now, especially on his position on the stimulus package...maybe the democrats can teach him how to read, but wait a minute, they don't seem to remember how to read either... congress needs to take a class in 'reading', so they will be able to apply it to the next Stimulus package Obama comes up with.
Specter is another good reason to have an "age limit" on politicans serving "us".
I just cant imagine the "deal" that the dems made with him to make the "switch"...better then Gold.

We haven't had a real "conservative" run and be elected, since Ronald Reagan...
He was very electable, with his strong core "old fashion values".

And by the way, would still be today, in this so called new era.

The table will turn, when we see the devastating results of this liberal socialist agenda we now have in control....We will be in desperate need of a true blue (red) Conservative to bring us back to life.

George HW BUSH was a real conservative and a great American. The most qualified man ever to be President
