What Do These Cities/Counties Have In Common?

Augusta County, Powhatan, Hanover, Rockingham, Colonial Heights and Poquoson?

Answer: According to my quick review, these were the only localities won by Jim Gilmore. Wow.

The Senate race and Presidential election proves one never-changing fact: He who has the most money, wins.

The Presidential election proves that whoever does the MOST with their money wins. Whether we like the results or not, Obama ran a very effective campaign. The question is, what did we learn as Republicans, and what will we DO differently in the future?

It is true, Obama ran a very successful campaign. The (essentially) unlimited amount of money available to his campaign allowed him to be more powerful in his message than the McCain campaign could ever hope to be. The simple fact is, the more money you have, the more effectively you can reach out to the American people. I'm sure over the coming weeks, there will be much analysis on what the McCain/Gilmore campaigns could have done better. However, the unprecedented amount of money spent by the Obama campaign (a simple example of being able to spend millions of dollars on a 30 minute infomercial, not done before or since Ross Perot if memory serves), only proves my point. What candidate in their right mind will ever accept public funding again?

By the way, bloomberg has a great article on Obama's record breaking spending:

Jim Gilmor is a joke. Good riddance. He is the kind of Republican we must avoid nominating if we ever again hope to return to electoral supremacy in VA. Marshall, Saxman, several of our Congressman or anyone else would have done better than gilmo.

Gilmore's campaign refused to contrast his record vs. Warner's record.

How do you distinguish between the two and prove you would be a better Senator?

The six billion dollar deficit was a lie, that the AP.. yes, Bob Lewis himself disavowed in an article before the first debate.

Later the MSM resurrected the lie, because they would have to explain away the $3 billion dollar deficit produced, not by a 9-11 attack on the US and resulting stock market crash.... but just spending all you can in the face of a known, at the very minimum a mild recession.

Gilmore was the victim of his own advisors.... hopefully, that will be a lessoned learned...

btw... I do hope that every business that refused to help Gilmore financially has their work force unionized.....

That would be special.... and personally, I would find it gratifying. Reap what you sow...

Jessee, it's the same principle as capitalism... You continue to dig deeper. Please stop already.

Anon, stop what? Stop stating the truth? You mean like Obama did during his entire campaign? Capitalism has nothing to do with campaign finance. The fact that Obama outspent McCain 2 to 1... that's a problem that needs to be addressed.

Jim Gilmore's blowout loss can be blamed on only one person---and that is Jim Gilmore. He should have never forced himself on the party to become it's nominee. Someone with such high unfavorable ratings was doomed from the start. He cared more about running than in the party holding that senate seat.

It is very possible that his terrible showing cost us the 2nd and 5th Congressional seats, while I sure hope my friend Virgil can squeak through.

Now is not a good time for you to chirp up one bit.

You and every Republican in the Senate and House that turned your backs on the Car Tax Cut, undercut the Republican message of smaller government and lower taxes.

Look in the mirror!

Hey Chris, alias STD, yea I thought a post from me might stir you up. Car Tax Relief is a great goal just a screwed up implementation. Has our GOP brand in VA been harmed by inconsisticies (sic) on tax and spending, yes. But I voted for Marshall at the convention and would have preferred someone like Cuccinelli run. Again Gilmore put himself ahead of party and should have deferred to someone else with a better chance of winning or at least not harming the rest of the ticket.

I carried a proxy at the state central committee meeting in October 2007 that decided the nominating process. Gilmore was there twisting arms. The US Senate seat was probably lost on that day.

Hope you have been well!
