I realize that we have a bad hand to deal with now that Jim Webb is in the Senate, but why completely capitulate and nominate a Democrat unless you're going to get something for it, like getting one of our 4th Circuit nominees confirmed? The Democrats have let those nominations languish virtually indefinitely.
What Cuccinelli seems to be missing is that WE DID "GET SOMETHING FOR IT." We got the very thing Cuccinelli is lamenting - a 4th Circuit nominee confirmed. Webb, Warner and the Bush Administration worked out a deal that is pretty well known and transparent. The deal was Webb gets his guy on the EDVA (Trenga) and Warner gets his guy on the 4th Circuit (Justice Steve Agee). In addition, we got a second solid nomination to the 4th Circuit with the nomination of Judge Glen Conrad from the WDVA. Cuccinelli seems to have missed the very deal he is asking for and blaming the Bush Administration for not making.
Punchline is Virginia Republicans should be THRILLED that we're getting 2 solid jurists on the 4th Circuit in exchange for 1 guy at the District Court level. I'll take that any day and I assume this was just an oversight on Cuccinelli's part.
